I bought this as a compact travel radio so I didn't have to take one of my large portables with me. Given the low price and small size of the radio, I didn't expect high performance from it, but I was wrong. The first surprise was that the quality of the speakers is quite satisfactory. As expected, there is no significant bass, but the sound is not tinny. HF, AM and VHF reception exceeded my expectations, aided by a fairly quick search for active frequencies. When tuned to a specific frequency, the radio scans so quickly that I don't miss the direct-entry keyboard. On HF, this is facilitated by choosing seven SW bands as starting points. In terms of other features, the sleep timer and alarm are the easiest radios to set up. A useful feature is the Favorites button, which simultaneously turns on the radio and tunes it to your favorite FM station. However, the instructions for configuring this setting in the manual are incomplete. It says to tune to the station you want and then press and hold the favorites button to save it in memory. It is not mentioned that the "Favorites" button must also be pressed first to start the process. It's a bit odd that the side-by-side Mute and Power buttons do the same thing - nothing bad, but weird. All in all, this is a radio that I will not only use for traveling.
