. The way he gets up there is intimidating but he loves being there so I thought I'd put up some shelves so it's safer for him and I both. I was hoping to find something simple that could be a nice staircase for him. The shelf should look good, be strong, wide, secure and inexpensive. I chose these shelves and they turned out better than I expected. Installation was very easy. The instructions are written quite simply, but are easy to understand. The kit includes a tool that makes it easy to install and align the brackets. A level is contained within the brackets themselves. As long as the brackets are in the bracket, you can make sure they are level and screw them directly to the wall. After screwing to the wall, remove the bracket and then place it on the shelf. It's pretty easy. I hung each shelf so that one bracket was on the post (blue tape indicates the post) and the other with the included drywall anchor. I hung all 4 in about 45 minutes but the cat slowed me down for trying to steal my boxes. My cat really didn't want to use the new ladder but he almost fell on the way up and I had to get him out. down, now he just uses the ladder to go up. When he goes downstairs he still prefers to jump on the bed because it's obviously more fun that way. I was thinking of putting something non slip on the shelves mainly because he has terrible depth perception from recently losing an eye (I saved him after he lost it so don't be mad at me). However, they are not really slippery and he can walk up and down instead of jumping. This really has nothing to do with the shelves themselves, but anyone who wants to hang beautiful cat shelves without a rug will take care of it.
