Don't mess with it!

I mainly use it when my son is sleeping to reduce the noise. The first pair I used. Part of the metal part on the headphones has come off. The second pair has just stopped working and is making this weird noise when I "wiggle" the wire. The mic isn't as good if you don't put it to your mouth. and yes, the wire REALLY tangles! waste of money!
