am I ONLY BAD?

Bought as a replacement remote for my air conditioner. It arrived in record time. I opened the packaging and found a pad with a horrible inscription "YOUR HANDS ARE CUT IN CRAFTS!" The plastic packaging is difficult to open. It was actually easier to open than expected. BUT, then I put in two AA batteries, waited 10 seconds and then pressed the ON button. Nothing has happened. Tried several times and FINALLY the LCD screen lit up and showed a number at the top and part of the number at the bottom of the screen. I think this part number showed the room temperature but it showed correctly. I took out the batteries, put them back in and hit the power button a few times. I FINALLY got the full number which I could read at the bottom of the LCD screen. By the way, MY CONFIDENCE in this device was rapidly declining. Next, read the so-called instructions. My CAT could write more clearly. When you set up the device for your air conditioner, the instructions will ask you to press the numbers on the keypad that correspond to your air conditioner. Well, there is NO keyboard. At least the ones showing the numbers. Of course there is some kind of keyboard, but each key is labeled with an operation and not a number. I tried to guess the numbers and it definitely didn't work. Turn off the device and read the confusing instructions again, but very slowly this time, as if English were my third language. OK. repeated the whole process. I pushed the toggle switch to turn the device on and.VIOLA!.....nothing happened. Tried several times and.2. VIOLA!...the screen came on and again I saw an incomplete number. The only two switches that seemed to work were changing the temperature from C to F and the FAN icon. Simply put, I either showed my ignorance by NOT being able to understand the instructions, or... I failed to understand the instructions when they were written. I think it was ALL THREE! I tried a few more iterations: put in new batteries, use the switch, tap the screen, cast voodoo spells that I remembered, and press any combination of buttons. The only thing that REALLY worked was putting the device back in the plastic case, filling out the return form and sealing the package for a RETURN. Overall: The device looks very good, feels comfortable in the hand, the LCD screen is large enough so that you don't squint while reading, and the color was popping (I bought the gold tint). However, operating the device was a complete failure: confusing instructions coupled with inaccurate descriptions made it a SAME frustrating experience. This device had the potential to be something neat and useful. Instead, it fell into the "Why did I buy this?" category. All in all very, very disappointed. And I advise against buying it.
