Review on πŸ–₯️ MSI Optix G27C Non-Glare LED Curved Monitor - Wide Screen 1920x1080P by George Phillips

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The blue tint, lack of OSD refresh rate, and uneven backlighting keep this monitor from being a great monitor.

This is my first review until I receive feedback on this product from a representative. When I enable free syncing in the AMD Windmill demo on this monitor, the entire image turns a blue tint. This is a big problem when it happens in games and unfortunately I can't be sure if it happens in games as I can't just toggle it on and off in games to see the difference right away. Other users have reported/verified this product and also mentioned this bluish cast. And most importantly for me, this monitor doesn't have a refresh rate counter in the OSD unless I'm missing something. This is very important to me as it is the best way to ensure freesync is working properly in game. On another monitor I had, the OSD had a real-time refresh rate counter that adjusted to the in-game FPS, so I was confident that FreeSync was doing what it was supposed to. Another user told me that the default freesync range is 30-144Hz, but the default is only 90-144Hz (Windows 7, AMD driver 16.11.5, the last working driver for freesync in the original Skyrim). I was able to set it to 30-144Hz using the Custom Resolution Utility. The backlight is very uneven, but I don't notice it unless the screen is completely black. The product also contains very limited information on how Over Driver works and what it does. - and some OSD options like crosshair are grayed out and can't be changed for some reason. I know you can turn on the crosshair and switch between styles, but the options in the OSD (On Screen Display) are not available. Everything else on the monitor looks fine. I heard that Samsung's original curved VA panel doesn't have a purple flex cable, which was a big problem. However, these other issues need to be addressed, most notably the blue tint that occurs when FreeSync is enabled in the AMD Windmill demo (this did not occur on the other FreeSync monitor I tested).

Pros
  • It would be 5 stars but there are dead pixels out of the box. Otherwise a great monitor.
Cons
  • Too bad I have 2 dead pixels on my monitor.
