You are mistaken if you think that after years with trendy plastic toothbrushes you will never like the handles of these bamboo toothbrushes! (I'll admit that I've stood in front of the traditional toothbrush show for far too many minutes, arguing between curved and slanted, that thumb grip and that ergonomic grip.) I was skeptical too, but now that I've used it. I actually like that these pens feel better than the plastic ones! I wouldn't say the bristles are "soft" but not as hard as a vegetable scrubber either! Maybe the bristles are like "medium" on plastic toothbrushes? (I don't know exactly because I've always used a soft one.) I like how the box says to remember to clean gently. It may sound strange, but I think the bamboo handle allows me to be more aware of how hard I'm pushing than traditional plastic handles - maybe it's just the simplicity of the design? As for the charcoal bristles whitening my teeth? I don't think I noticed, but it's probably too early to tell. I made the decision to purchase when I set a goal in July to reduce my plastic consumption per month without plastic. Never look back; Never fight between plastic options again.
