I bought these because I needed wireless headphones. I've had a set of Bose Quiet Comfort 20 headphones for years and they're amazing but wired. I bought these because the Bose Wireless had 2 bad reviews and they had some good ones. They're not in the same league as Bose in terms of sound quality or noise cancellation, but they're not bad in those categories, better than Apple's stock headphones. They do a good job of noise cancellation. The battery seems to perform better with less noise cancellation. With the app this becomes much clearer. But not sure about 8 hours yet.
