I initially bought this "in case" the lights went out at home. I also thought it would be good for walking my dog near dusk when I might want more light on the road or sidewalk. Yesterday we lost our power at night and I turned it on to the lantern feature and was actually able to read a book without straining to see. I have also used it to walk at dusk/night and it performs very well. Because it worked so great when the lights went out, I'll be ordering another one "just in case" I want double the light! Great product, handy, easily rechargeable.
