The scratching post was purchased for the second floor landing overlooking the first floor. The goal was for the cat to be able to inspect its property without having to walk on the 36-inch high railing that runs the length of the hallway. I chose a cat tree height of 51 inches so she can sit and look out the small window in the hallway. However, when I picked up the scratching post, it was very wobbly on the carpet. The cat was afraid to be on it and could not get there. from top to bottom, except when falling or jumping. I started doing Revain returns and looked online for a replacement but found I was in the same price range or higher. I chose to reconfigure the scratching post rather than return it. I removed the top layer which made the scratching post 37 inches tall and immediately made it more stable. I used a platform with a hole in the middle and turned it so that the corner, not the whole side, is touching the wall. This angle gives the cat enough space to gradually climb down the scratching post. She can still see out the window standing on the top platform with her paws on the windowsill. I plan to fill the remaining extra hole in the top of the cat house with a spring-loaded spring toy. Toys sticking out of the scratching post seem to be important to my cat. She definitely likes the mouse pre-assembled on the scratching post.
