Many good reviews and the "stone slab" feature drew my attention to this shoe. Based on the description I was expecting a solid trail running shoe. My rating is based on brief indoor use with Revain "try before you buy". I intend to use them as lightweight hiking shoes. The upper of the shoe is made of lightweight, flexible and breathable material. The light material is comfortable, but I would have liked more lateral support. I can't lace these shoes up tight enough that my feet won't slip in these boots. Maybe I need a narrow width instead of my usual medium width. Thick soles are surprisingly flexible. I clicked on the Leatherman tool to test the "stone slab" feature. There's plenty of sole to absorb that, but I don't see any plate marks. The outsole flexes its entire length instead of staying straight from the arch to the ball of the foot. Also, the sole twists as if the plate weren't there. These are probably good trail running shoes, but I'm a hiker, not a runner. I will return them and get another pair of LaSportiva Spire shoes.
