Poor sound quality and performance

If it's just for talk TV, it might be ok. When it comes to music, save your money for something better. I've been using it for a few days and I'm just not thrilled. I hooked it up to a Samsung S10+ and a pretty decent classic stereo via RCA jacks, and I'm a bit picky about the sound quality. The sound is muddy and dirty, lacking in clarity and detail. The ups and downs are there, but it just doesn't sound good. The output level is typical for USB powered products as at max volume it is a bit lower than the consumer line level should be but the same as my phone's output. I tried turning down the volume on the unit and turning up the volume on the stereo, which improved detail, but it still sounded washed out. When I plugged my phone directly into the stereo, there was a noticeable improvement in the picture, so the problem is definitely this device causing audio degradation. range and stops when I approach or touch the device. My other BT devices offer 35-100ft line of sight. When I touch the device, BT mostly drops out. For the techno folks, I opened it up to see what's inside. The DAC is an MS8413 from another company with good specs. A decent JRC4556A is used as the op-amp, but it's not usually good for 5V USB. The BT receiver has been untagged so I can't read it. It also has an unnamed switch and a 3.3V linear regulator.

Pros
  • D/A converter
Cons
  • Slightly torn
