I wore this jacket in Pennsylvania in the summer of 2018. Anyone who lives on the east coast knows that means 85 plus a day. I rode about 1900 miles in this jacket paired with hwk pants on my new KLR 650. I have ridden in this outfit in all weather conditions. An unlined jacket is good until around 55f in the early morning before you start to get cold. I don't want this jacket to be my only one for winter but it does the job well. I just rode through a downpour about 25 minutes ago and the jacket is rainproof down to the zip. I found my shirt underneath was soaked with a stripe after the zipper. This jacket does not breathe even with the vents open. In hot weather I was drenched in sweat. Since this is not a hot weather jacket, this is fine. The reason for the star's distance is that lightning erupts during heavy rain. Armor is nothing more than just foam padding. If I really needed protection, I would buy legal armor. Overall I would buy this jacket 10 more times for the price, it's worth it. I'm 210 pounds at 5'11 and ordered the X Large and it fits like a charm. Upgrade another 2000 miles and get stuck in a 150 mile collective in heavy rain. This thing has kept me dry for the most part. I had to stop on the Autobahn under the overpass because of the lightning. I unfolded the jacket after it was completely soaked and when the rain stopped about an hour later it was dry. i love this shop I got more wet when I swam. It doesn't offer all that much protection, but the rain feels like a sphere at 70mph and I think without it I'd have holes in me (insert laughter). I was even hit by hail once before I quit riding and this jacket saved me from being something you put in your salad.
