As others have pointed out, this thing is small and has a pretty short range. If you're trying to examine a 20mm diameter sample and taking multiple 1mm x 2mm sections with a highly magnified photo, this tool is great for moving from one area to another in a smooth and controlled manner. It's a reliable tool for my work and at a reasonable price. I could also imagine using it to do very fine detail by hand.
