We needed to replace wheel bearings on a PT Cruiser. Several forums have recommended Timken SET49. Pressing the bearings into the hubs was smooth and easy (using a bearing press). After installation, the new bearings work as they should. We're glad we followed the recommendation to use the Timken SET49. If you're replacing pressed bearings, we also recommend considering new wheel hubs. Comparing the cost of new hubs versus the time spent cleaning and reusing old hubs was a good choice for us. With a new hub you get all new wheel studs and you have a better chance of success as the pressed wheel bearings and hub are new. After the parts were assembled, we realized that replacing the bearings and hub at the same time was the right choice. We kept the nicest wheel studs from the old hub in case we need them in the future. We took the old bushings to a local metal fabrication shop. I'm looking forward to many trouble-free kilometers.
