I am a rescue dog and for large German Shepherds I use crib mattresses for beds. This protects the mattresses and keeps them clean. I actually use 2 of these for the dog bed. One for above and one for below. This way, when the dog "marks" the bed, the top and bottom of the mattress are protected. Even if I have to wash 2 pads and a sheet, it still washes much easier, faster and with less energy than washing a large dog bed that rips up your washer and dryer. They are well made, wash great and I will buy them again when we need more.
