First tried to please, used tobacco wick for many years (I wrap it around my cigarette lighter, I hate the taste of butane!) They don't have a good flame. and then he doesn't want to go out! (AND BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PLACE IT. Just ask about the burn mark on my coffee table.) + On the plus side, this wick works well for making candles. You definitely want a strong wick with a good slow burn that won't self-extinguish. I went back to the (hemp bees) softer, more sophisticated line I bought before trying this one. SO SO SOFT SOFT, BAD BAD BAD. So I (BEE WICK) gave it another try because the price was rosy. And BINGO, Goldilocks match. Now perfect caliber, clean steady slow fire, no burned fingers, no complaints this time! I hope the quality stays the same, I will order more. A++
