The plastic case melted before the fuse blew.
After I slipped this between the main car battery and the secondary battery isolator/charger (which appeared to have failed), the black plastic casing melted to a bead before the fuse finally blew. I had to take a picture to share - it was pretty impressive but I was annoyed so I threw it away.
