Review on πŸ“· Sony Alpha 7R IV Full Frame Mirrorless Camera: High Resolution 61MP Sensor, 10FPS with Continuous AF/AE Tracking by Paul Martindale

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Another Sony milestone

The Sony A7R IV's resolution, autofocus, speed and form factor should see it take first place in the Camera of the Year category. A little disappointed to see that so little work has been done on the camera's menu structure. The camera offers 14-bit uncompressed raw or compressed raw that uses Sony's potentially destructive compression. A lossless or visually lossless compression option does not yet exist. There is no 4K/60p on the a7R IV, but the camera remains a pure 8-bit camcorder. Most competitors now offer 10-bit capture or output: something that greatly increases flexibility when editing footage, so it's odd not to see it here. Instead of fixing existing quirks and shortcomings, Sony focuses more on attracting attention. - Acquiring new features and to be honest the full-time eye AF / constant tracking is very impressive.

Pros

A rush to make headlines and a missed opportunity for a real 4th generation A7R camera.
