Keeps food hot for over 4 hours! We haven't tested it for cold meals yet, but it definitely works well for our preschoolers' hot meals. She said her pizza rolls were delicious and warm by lunchtime (just over four hours after they were placed in the container). It can easily open and close the lid by itself. I think this needs to be added when packing your child's lunch. This is a good price and gives you additional dining options as you can pack something that tastes best when served hot. We look forward to packaging a wider variety of foods - hot sandwiches (cut into smaller pieces), soups, pasta, taco/burrito sheets, melted cheese veggies. . . I'm thinking of getting another one so I don't have to use the microwave at work, which can be pretty gross. Another advantage is the bright pink and lemon green colors, very pretty. Daughter loves the color combination.
