Review on πŸ”Œ 2-Pack Cable Matters Keystone Jack Wall Plate with Cat6 RJ45 Insert, White Ethernet Wall Plate by Daniel Fung

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Badly corroded after a month of use

I bought this wall plate to extend a CAT6 cable to an outside wall to power an outdoor wireless access point. I went through two APs that "failed" before finding out while testing the second one. indoors this AP was still good. It was a wall cable that was somehow broken. I disconnected the CAT6 cable from the outside of this board and found that pins 3-4 were badly corroded. This is due to the operation of the PoE access point block. To make matters worse, when I removed the adapter socket from the wall plate, I found that the inside of the plug was even more corroded. I had to replace this wall plug with a replacement that came in a 2 pack and scrape the corrosion off the pins on the CAT6 cables. Strangely, the other end of the cable, which connects to an access point in direct rain, wasn't subject to the slightest bit of corrosion. There is something wrong with the metal of the contacts used in this wall plate which break within a few hours. Now I have to look for gold plated contacts as they are definitely NOT gold.
