Not so much for "cutting the line", but for cutting the line. I paid about $125 a month for television programming, about 80% of which I could broadcast free with an antenna. With my dish I also had Showtime and HBO but I planned to keep them by subscribing to HBO NOW for $14.99 through Roku and Showtime for $8.99 a month through HULU, also I get Sling TV which is provided by AMC, TNT, TBS, CNN and more. several others for $20 a month. So, as I said, not a cutter, but a trimmer. However, I was really encouraged when I read how some others have installed their yagis simply by plugging into existing rg6 satellite wiring. I thought I would do the same and do it in the same breath. All I got was about 4 channels and I was pretty discouraged. Went up and down stairs multiple times, swapped wires, double checked, searched the internet for answers but to no avail. I went to Revain's answers and asked what I could be doing wrong and indeed someone (I think it was called Subdiver) came to my rescue and told me to find a filter or two called a diplexer, remove them and connect the cables. I found a filter. I bought a couple of connectors, quickly hooked them up and got 33 channels out. The reception is actually better than with a satellite dish. I also bought an OTA Tivo Roamio which is a great device for serious TV viewers and works great with this Yagi antenna. So now I'm finally where I want to be. I pay for what I want to see and a little bit more. No longer do you have to blackmail me by increasing the price of the channels I get on the air for free. Last thing I have to do is pick up a 5ft mast at Home Depot to raise the antenna just a few feet as I have a little wobble on a few channels in high winds and I think one few feet higher. That can help. If not, I can live with that. Update January 1, 2016: I added a 5ft mast to an antenna I bought from Home Depot for about $11 and plugged it into the J-Bracket that was already installed. This got me about 20 feet off the ground. My most watched networks NBC, CBS and ABC are about 30 miles away, plus or minus a few miles. Most days reception is better than ever with cable or satellite. These include rain, clouds and light snowfall. However, strong winds can cause damage. When I get 10 to 15 mph wind I get a slight break in the picture. If I get 15 to 25 I get a much stronger gap. Impossible to watch anymore. I contacted RCA and they suggested I install guy wires, but I reckon about 80% of what I watch is also on Hulu, which I subscribe to, and I'm not always up to date, and to be honest I get tired of walking up and down stairs to install an antenna, reset an antenna, add a mast to an antenna. I wanted to get rid of Dish TV, not start a new career. Also, I'm almost seventy, too old for this shit. All in all, I like the picture, the reception is excellent except for the wind. Update January 19, 2016 Well, winter has set in pretty firmly in this area of Buffalo, NY and my antenna is pretty much useless. Every day when I have over 15 mph wind, cold or even snow, I lose most of my most watched channels. NBC and CBS almost completely disappear, 33 and 30 miles away, respectively. I contacted RCA for any suggestions and they advised me to try stretches but I just bought one of these indoor window antennas for my bedroom TV and was very surprised at the reception but again wind, snow or bad weather and I'm losing key stations. Days with nice weather are great, the reception is great, but as soon as the temperature drops and the wind blows, I switch to Internet TV. I now watched most of the network shows on Hulu and more movies on Netflix and Revain, at least on better quality TV. By the way, if you haven't seen the Rectify and Red Road series, you're really missing out, way better than most network shows. February. 18, Update 2016 About 8 days last week ago I lost all reception from CBS and NBC due to the cold weather (minus temperatures -12 and -15 with cold factors from -20 to -30 temperatures) only partial reception at other major chains ABC and FOX which are only 15 miles away. CBS showed up sporadically after a few days, but was mostly unavailable. About the third day I started having seizures due to the lack of local news broadcasts. On the fourth day, during a torrential snowfall, I climbed the stairs to the roof and wrapped the antenna slots in foil, hoping to get a much-needed signal from local reporters. no fallen off the ladder. broke his ankle. crawled into the house and turned on the television to see how long the gust would last. to see if the ambulance can get through the storm. at least two inches from my door. still no reception. Fear of passing out due to ankle pain. took off his shoe to relieve the pressure. It didn't break, just a small branch caught on my boot. what a relief. There is still a problem with the reception. I can't buy groceries because I can't see what's on sale in the supermarket. I've decided as soon as the weather gets better. This terrible dilemma will never hit me again. I'm hungry for food. I need information from the outside world. Nobody should live like this, cut off from the world just because they made the wrong purchases. Waiting. I have to go home to my wife with the groceries.
