I'm 65 years old and I play singles and doubles tennis. I had meniscus surgery on my right leg and then started having problems with MCL because it's my dominant leg that pushes and twists a lot. I wanted the best knee pad that would keep me in the game and prevent further injury due to my age. I'm not 20 but the knee thinks so and I play in the younger bands. I have a medium size as it was my measurement. When I first put it on the molded plastic fit well, I didn't need any extra padding. There were complaints due to the fact that the internal joint pressed on the bone. At first I thought I couldn't live with that. I wore it for a while and it was too tight on the inside when I was standing up and loosened a bit when I crouched slightly. So the real test was the next day when I had a singles match. I didn't wear it until I was in court. Long story short, I slapped this guy I rarely slapped. My foot felt secure and maybe the padding let my foot sink in enough that it didn't bother me. So I would recommend it for active sports and not just for walking or as a daily lift. But give him a good workout before you send him back.
