This playpen came out as a replacement for a regular playpen to give my baby more space to sleep and sleep. That's a hit. The size was perfect for our bedroom space. As you can see in the picture we used a regular crib mattress (52 x 28) (blue) on one side and since we had an old playground mattress (38 x 26) (white) it actually fit into a smaller space and was simply plugged in smaller gap. we put a pillow (but of course it is up to each parent how comfortable it will be to put a pillow in their baby's crib). Now it's a bit tight with both mattresses, but it works for us, but as a suggestion, you can also combine a crib mattress with a mini crib mattress.
