Review on Patagonia Atom Sling Backpack Black by Cody Hinckley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better than expected - much better than Moab 6 on 5.11

Much better than I expected. I gave up that bag and bought the 5.11 Moab 6. I found them larger with more molle loops and seems more durable. I have a Moab 10 so that made sense to me. I found it too featureless, not sturdy enough and too small. I was very wrong. Land in place first. I lie flat on my back and don't bend over at one end. The material is very strong and durable. The look is stricter than I thought. I was really surprised how much the main compartment fits in. After sunglasses, keys, wallet, phone and a small first aid kit, you have room for a water bottle, raincoat and a snack. The zip pocket on the main strap is too small for a modern phone. like the Samsung G7 (come on Patgonia!) but it just holds my favorite knife perfectly. It has a quick release buckle on the front main strap. If you get grabbed by a bear, you may be able to let go and walk away. Wearing it anti-clockwise will easily fit a full-size 1911 and a few extra mags - no problem. There is still room for cuffs, ties and other small items. It's very well constructed and when you flip the bag forward both zipped pockets are right there and easily accessible. I would have preferred if Patagonia made one of the cords a different color to make correct tensioning safer - especially for folks with CCW who might need a gun quickly - a red cord would be nice. Carrying a notepad when you need a gun sucks. The smaller zippered pocket on the back is the most obvious place to carry your phone. It's a small bag and nothing else fits in it, I carry a small spiral bound notebook with me. The 2 loops on the main strap are a must and well placed. I use them to attach my carabiner key chain to it all the time. The back and front loops are also a good place to install a small LED flashlight so people can see you in the dark when you are hiking or cycling. The beauty of this bag is that it's so thin you don't have to take it off to ride. in the car. Just swing it under your arm and the bag is there without getting in the way. You may not want to drive long distances with that belt on the right side of your neck and the seat belt on the left, but for a short drive it's best to leave it on. The same goes for al fresco dining. - If you are afraid of thieves, just don't take it off. Twist it under your arm and you're done. At 6ft 3in this bag fits perfectly! The strap is adjustable and will also fit a 5'2" person. for anyone looking for a shoulder bag. Good for duffel bag, day hikes in mild weather changes, anti-clockwise carry, baby bag - great for wipes, diapers, spare gear and change of towels. I use mine every day!
