I like their small size - I had trouble finding cotton balls that weren't too big. I use them to apply hydrogen peroxide, witch hazel, and various other ointments to scrapes, cuts, rashes, etc. Large cotton balls consume too much ointment that spreads over a larger area, requiring more time and supplies to clean up. They're not all cut the same size, but that doesn't bother me, I sometimes want more without having to buy a whole big pack.
