It was easy to cut to length with a pair of sharp scissors, just make sure the end is cut straight and then snaps right into the buckle. The ratchet system has a small lever at the bottom, and as with any ratchet, sometimes you need to release the tension if it's been overtightened (just pull on the end that goes through the belt loop). It looks great, I wear it with dress pants almost every day. I'm glad I discovered this belt, I'll probably buy a few more colors. Good product Anson!
