I recently got a nice little laptop (it's a Dell Inspiron 3147, which is just over 11.75", a little under 8" and 3/4" thick) and needed one for it new shell. My criteria for a good case were pretty simple: it had to fit snugly (not too tight or loose), it had to have adequate padding, and it had to have an extra pocket for a charging cable, a small travel mouse, and an external adapter. DVD player. That was all I wanted and I didn't realize at the time how difficult it would be to find a case that met those simple requirements. I searched all stores and the internet until I finally found this Targus brand laptop bag. .My laptop fits snugly in this bag - it's snug enough but not too tight. However, if your laptop is bigger than mine, I don't think it will fit, so keep that in mind. As far as padding goes, it's not. the absolute best padding but reasonable enough to keep the laptop secure. I wouldn't swing it around and hit people with it, but... you know what I mean. I don't know if it can withstand a side tumble (probably a good corner kick will damage the laptop) if you drop it, but if you handle it carefully it can withstand a regular tumble on the edge (although it is not really able to stand on its side like a briefcase) and protect it from your usual knocks and bumps. I wish it was a little firmer in the padding but to be honest as long as you are careful with it you should be fine. Finally, despite being quite thin and slim, it was able to hold all the items I needed. The large bag has an internal bag divider, and the divider is padded really well - which means it protects the laptop from scuffs/scratches with what you keep in other bags, so that's a pretty good feature. There is also a second very thin fabric divider so technically three sections in one large bag. I put my DVD player and its USB cable in another compartment (one stays empty) and my laptop stays in the narrowest compartment (there's a nifty Velcro strap to keep the laptop in place). On the outside of the bag is a small pocket big enough to hold a charging cable and a mouse (there are even some cute little pockets here along with pen holders. I use one of the tiny pockets to hold a mouse). I think I should also mention that it comes with a shoulder strap (although I don't really use and use mine) and some nice carry handles. Finally, this wasn't on my list of requirements, but I wanted something that felt well made and durable, and this case fills the bill. I'm very glad I finally managed to find a decent laptop bag for my needs. and I really think the Targus has struck a good balance here between functionality, size, thinness, weight and durability. I wish it was a little softer, but I'm sure that would add a lot more volume to the case, so I can see why they didn't. I'm generally satisfied, so I definitely recommend it if you have a tiny, right-sized laptop!
