I read a lot of reviews and looked at tons of different jewelry boxes as I needed a place to hold my earrings (particularly studs, smaller dangle earrings, and ear cartilage items) that were all visible at the same time. This box had the most consistent reviews for excellence and durability. I must say that I agree with its sturdiness. The item was impressively packaged and I felt like it was a good weight (prior to placing any items in the box).I love the two compartments. I use the top compartment for my smaller items or things I use on a regular/daily basis (stud earrings, rings, etc). This level is set with the squares and can not be altered. I liked that they are fixed; it’s what I wanted it to do. The tabs make it very easy to lift the top compartment out to utilize the second level.The second level does allow for some modifications. I took out three splitters and arranged my bulkier necklaces in those areas and my bracelets. I rarely use these items as I’m not a jewelry person. I have sentimental value to some things as they were my family’s and I hope to pass them down to my kids some day.The necklace holders and pocket with really well for the variety of smaller necklaces that I have. I can see them easily by pulling the elastic pocket forward but I know they are secure when the lid is closed.This does not have a mirror or a way to contain the smaller items in their designated squares. I would not travel with it nor recommend it as a travel jewelry container.This sits on my dresser, next to my mirror for easy access. I love the elegance of the box and the simplicity of the latch. The latch does not lock.For what I needed and wanted, I am 110% happy with my purchase.
