I bought this product to use for cloning and imaging my hard drive on my desktop PC. This works fine for my application. I haven't fully assembled the device as I'm only interested in using it to clone/image my hard drive regularly and prepare the hard drive for this purpose, cancel/format in the OS (Windows 7 x64 for me) if it is connected via USB. This item worked seamlessly with a SATA/USB circuit board placed on my desk and an outdoor hard drive during advanced cloning and imaging, so I didn't encounter any of the cooling issues mentioned in some of the customer reviews here. Note to those reading this review on using enclosures in cloning/imaging: I tried one of these SATA to USB adapter cables before purchasing this item. The adapter cable was not recognized by my bootable media (the "Rescue" CD for booting a PC without an operating system). My understanding is that the reason for this is that some (probably most) adapter cables are not recognized by the USB hub drivers on the PC when booting outside of Windows. This is what I got to explain why the enclosure is recommended for cloning and imaging full disks. This item was recognized by my two cloning/image software tools, Acronis and Macrium Reflect, so it fits my needs. for my pc. My other 2.5 case for my laptop also works with bootable media, but now I can use the Rosewill case for Sata 3.5 and 2.5 hard drives when cloning and imaging my PC. This product works well for my needs. I recommend it to anyone who needs an inexpensive Sata/USB interface to clone and image their hard drives.
