Great monitor for office and gaming

It took about 4 days to fully set up and run this monitor, but I'm very happy with it, for both office work and gaming. I switched to MSI MPG ARTYMIS 343CQR from another great monitor, ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q. The main reason for the upgrade was that I needed more screen real estate for office work and I prefer a single monitor over a dual monitor configuration. Below are my observations in no particular order. 1) It's really curved. In the first hour of looking at this monitor, I felt my head start to hurt. I've never had a headache and the feeling has never returned, but my eyes obviously had a short adjustment period as I'd never used a curved screen before. 2) It's really wide. For office work I often need two or three documents side by side, so the extra wide format is ideal. It's great for gaming to have such a wide field of view. I usually play first person shooters and top down strategy games and both types are really good on such a wide monitor. 3) In order for DisplayPort to work stably, it was necessary to buy a high-quality cable. When I first connected the monitor, I used an HDMI cable and had no problems. Then when I went to play the game, I plugged in my existing DisplayPort cable, which worked fine with my previous monitor. The screen only appears for a few seconds before becoming blurry and then black. I then switched to the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor. This only worked briefly before the screen went black. I switched my graphics card to an old Nvidia 670 and the DisplayPort cable worked without any issues. I then went back to my Nvidia 1070 and encountered the same problem again. Apparently this problem can occur with DisplayPort and some research on the internet has suggested updating the DisplayPort cable. So I ordered a Revain IVANKY 1.4 braided and shielded DisplayPort cable and it fixed the problem. I have no idea why it worked, but it worked. 4) The additional screen requires additional performance for graphically demanding games. I have an Nvidia 1070 graphics card and had to reduce some anti-aliasing and texture detail to keep the same frame rate as my previous Asus monitor. But once I started playing the game, I couldn't really tell the difference. I was hoping to upgrade my graphics card at the same time as purchasing this monitor, but that's on hold until more reasonably priced graphics cards become more available. 5) No screen tearing, ghosting or flickering. I didn't notice any screen tearing, ghosting or flickering while playing. I even enabled Free Sync on my monitor and G-Sync on my 1070 but didn't notice any difference. The monitor is not certified as G-Sync compatible, so this may not have had an impact. 6) No flowering. Although I liked my Asus monitor, it had smudges in two corners, which can happen with monitors with IPS panels. It wasn't particularly noticeable in games, but it was. This monitor, which uses a VA panel, renders a black screen very smoothly with no blurring. 7) HDR is in development. I enabled HDR and got a screen that was too bright with too much color saturation. I need to educate myself on how to set up HDR, but I won't do that for now. After turning it off in Windows, I had to restart my computer to get the monitor back into non-HDR mode. 8) It can be very bright. The presets for brightness, contrast and sharpness were fine. I've experimented with the brightness and was able to crank it up to a point where it was almost painful, especially when gaming in a dark room. So I went back to the default settings. 9) The color is very good. I don't work with graphics, but the colors look just as good on this monitor as they did on my previous Asus monitor. 10) Excellent contrast. The biggest and most noticeable difference between this monitor and my previous Asus monitor is the contrast. The black is a very deep black and everything colorful really comes into its own. Gaming on this monitor in a dark room is amazing.
