I will give a disclaimer in advance that this is my first balaclava I have worn. I thought it might be a good thermal to wear with biking on chilly days or when I'm hitting the slopes skiing. For such a use case I think it would do a fair job although the fabric is very thin. That could also be a good thing though. I guess it just depends on what you're looking for. The mesh material near the nose and mouth is more breathable than the rest of the piece. The brim on the top does not interfere too badly with a biking helmet although it does make the brim pretty low which could obscure vision. I couldn't find any way to wear this piece so that it covers my ears without having it all the way on with the brim underneath my biking helmet. Otherwise you could only have it to cover your nose and mouth or just hanging around your neck.
