After all the trouble of hooking up this display to my e-bike's control box, I found that the battery level indicator just flashed. It still does its job of turning the bike on and switching between three speeds. However, I cannot see the battery status while driving. Luckily my battery has a level indicator that I can check. I'd rather have a fully functional display considering the hassle of threading wires through my bike's frame. Good.
