Everything mentioned above occurred while using the most recent BIOS version and drivers that were acquired from the official website! This means that there are two possibilities: either I had really bad luck with my copy and something in it did not function as it should, or the issue is with unrefined and flawed software. I lean more toward the second choice, and I'll probably keep avoiding this company's laptops. To be fair, though, we must commend the official Asus store for accepting the laptop back without a fuss and giving the money back right away.
