The flashlight is quite weak, so it's not very practical for going out. But perhaps more importantly, the rotating connector assembly at the base of the charger feels dangerously flimsy; I had accidentally turned a small child too far, shorting out the wiring, tripping the switches and leaving some nice burn marks on the outlet. Not a very encouraging sign. I'd rather recommend this model from the same manufacturer, which is also a lot brighter, although the design of this lamp means you can't plug anything else into a dual socket, so here's the thing. A: The power button is pretty flimsy and is another thing our kids accidentally broke (they didn't do anything malicious, they just used it every day before bed for fun). The flashlight is sealed and not easy to maintain, so it's not much fun to fix.
