Frustration solved-the plastic pieces go up into the shelf
Well when it first arrived and started to assemble - thought this was going to be junk. Then realized the plastic pieces went up inside the shelf connector rings. The instructions were not exactly clear and you have to turn them a specific way and kinda turn the connecting pole ( like you are screwing it in to the shelf rings). Finally got that going and shelf turned out nice and sturdy.
