My car had problems with the charging system. The original generator began to fail and eventually failed. The alternator replacement took only an hour before it started to fail and then failed completely. The third generator stops. In all cases, the dash-mounted voltmeter is too crude to indicate what's going on, and it's not easy to plug a regular test lead into the cigarette lighter socket and take readings while driving. This meter will tell you exactly if you are charging or just running on battery without assistance. By the way, the device I received has a red LED display, not LCD as shown in the picture.
