Works as advertised

I work from home. When I'm "at work," I prefer to connect the remote desktop to my work laptop so I can use the large screen and keyboard attached to my gaming PC. In my current job, however, this is not possible. Their VPN setup completely separates my work laptop from other devices on my home network (Paranoia is off the charts!). To get around this I bought this KVM switch. I had to travel to Office Depot to get the video cables I needed, but once set up I can now use all my peripherals (except unfortunately the Wi-Fi printer) between my main computer and my work laptop. Pros: * Works as advertised: press the switch to switch from one computer to another * Comes with 2 high-speed USB cables to connect to computers * The price is right. This was by far the cheapest solution I thought would fit my setup. Cons: * Slow and noisy switching, which is not a fault of this particular switch but rather inherent in KVM technology. When you flip the KVM switch, it now takes 2-4 seconds for the active computer to recognize that USB devices are now connected and wake up the monitor with accompanying beeps and tambourines. they cannot be hidden (see fig.). *Video cables not included: You will need 3: one from each computer to the switch and 1 from the switch to your monitor. * Does not support dual monitor setup. * There are only 3 ports for shared USB devices (I use them for keyboard, mouse and webcam). Bottom line: If you're looking for an inexpensive, no-frills KVM to share a few peripherals between two computers, this device will get the job done. highlighted.
