Easy to fill, easy to clean, quiet, effective

I live in New England and have had many different humidifiers over the years. None of them were 100% satisfactory no matter the price. When my last humidifier broke down, I looked around for high power ultrasonic humidifiers and decided to try this Pure Guardian top fill unit. First of all, based on previous experiences, I limited my research to ultrasound. I've tried the evaporation option but can't stand the sight of mold and hard chemical buildup growing on the wick, especially since there's no way to clean the wick. The only solution is to replace the wick. Evaporative models are also noisy as they rely on a powerful fan to evaporate the water. My experience with ultrasonic humidifiers is that any sound is just water dripping from the top, or an occasional gurgling sound as water hits the ultrasonic part. Interval that works best for me. Most humidifiers had corners that I just couldn't reach easily, so slime grew there. This humidifier has an open top and is easily accessible from all corners. The hose is also easy to clean with a bottle brush. I'm having some trouble cleaning a small area of hose where there is a spring, but the straw cleaner will take care of it. And on top I remove the ventilation parts and lightly clean them again. And another nice feature is that the manufacturer has treated the surface of the tank in such a way that no mold or slime will grow on the sides. lift, carry and fold onto the base. I've often filled mine in the bath and then had to bend down to pick it up, often wondering what I'm doing to my back. My 96 year old mother actually tore a tendon in her bicep a few years ago trying to put the bottom tank back on the base and trying to catch it as it fell off so I started, after the top one first looking for filling. Since then, I've bought her several top-fill, evaporative, and ultrasonic humidifiers; none of them lasted more than a few winter seasons, and some only lasted one winter. So, based on my own experience with this moisturizer, I bought one of these for her and she loves it. It is easy to fill with a watering can or plastic milk jug to bring water to the device and fill it up. Another nice feature is the auto-off feature: the humidifier will automatically turn itself off if it runs out of water, giving my mom and us peace of mind when we're not home to refill it. One disadvantage of ultrasonic humidifiers is that they add a white layer of "dust" to the room. This is of course annoying and can be avoided by using distilled water as all the chemicals will be removed. I wasn't worried about this because I would have to buy 1 or 2 gallons a day, which I don't want to do. I believe that applies to ultrasonic humidifiers. However, I haven't seen any white dust in our current home, perhaps our water is softer here than where we used to live. Last year I bought 5 of these Pure Guardians for ourselves and other members of our family - three 2 gallon and two 1.5 gallon. One of them stopped working after a month. At that point I experienced the excellent support from Pure Guardian with their 3 year guarantee. I uploaded a return form to their support site, packed the defective unit, paid the postage and within 2 weeks received a brand new unit which I now like. hateful work is much less tiring. The price seems very reasonable compared to others I've bought. So if you need a humidifier, I recommend this one or the larger 2-gallon unit. Aside from the size and price of the tank, the other big difference is that the smaller unit doesn't have the ability to heat the water first, a feature I don't use although it's useful in a nursery or other setting could be .
