The instructions say to peel off the protective tab on the side. There is nothing on the side. There was a protective paper sleeve on top, so I took it off. In addition, one of the cartridges (cyan) did not have a protective cover. Let's see how the color will look over time. It was hard to tell which side was up/down and which side was left/right. There was a bit of trial and error before the cartridges fit into the compartment. - Recycling old cartridges. HP usually includes a box so I can send old cartridges back for recycling. This product is no longer plastic in the landfill. Please send me the box and postage so I can send it back to you. You can fill them up and resell them. Positives: - The biggest is the value for $. HP wanted $298 for the kit, and it costs $58. 1/5 of the price. Let me try it first. If it's really bad I can always get HP cartridges later - see photo of my sample printout. Looks a little brown.
