Review on Tonka Steel Classics Pickup Truck: Unyielding Toughness in Every Adventure by Mark Quarterman

Revainrating 3 out of 5

To use the toy, the winch must be removed.

The truck is equipped with a winch, as expected. As incredible as the fact that the winch cannot stay taut when not in use. It looks like it should have snapped onto the winch shaft, but it just doesn't fit. How could this error not be discovered before the product went into production. Even before the trucks were shipped to retailers, Tonka was able to at least include a note in the product description that the winch is wrong and the customer can simply disassemble it before handing it to the child. Tonka's silence on this is a mark of disrespect for its customers and the history and reputation of a quality company once loved. Such bad corporate decisions are too common and do not help to increase product loyalty. I bought this tonka product based on a memory of a giant tonka truck I played with at my grandparents house when I was 3 or 4 years old. It was unbreakable and still makes me smile when I think about it. Mighty Dump is now on my shopping list for a Christmas present, but I'll be looking at other brands from now on. Since Tonka doesn't respect their customers, why do I choose their products over others?

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
