I decided to start a virtual machine from one of these drives because the computer I was using ran out of disk space. wanted to give a virtual machine. The main (real) machine I used is an HP ZBook Studio G5 laptop with an Intel Core i7-9850H (1 socket, 6 cores) 2.60 GHz, 32 GB RAM running Windows 10. I have a working VMWare -Station version 15 used. The guest VM had 2 sockets, 2 cores (4 CPUs total), 12GB RAM on Windows 10. I successfully ran an identical VM from a laptop hard drive and the performance was good. But when I tried to run the same VM with the VM's primary hard drive residing on an external 2TB NVMe Thunderbolt 3 plug-in SSD instead of the laptop's hard drive, the VM crashed a few minutes after the Start again and again. So I sent the pluggable drive back.
