I have to say right away...this is a style item, not a costume item! If you are looking to complement your Star Trek costume for a convention or similar, this 1" pin is not large enough to use as a communicator for your costume. The product is definitely beautiful and good quality! The color is good and I didn't find any construction flaws that are often found with this type of product that screams "cheap". I like the feel of quality. I think I'd prefer a straight pin cap as a base to use as a tie pin (although I still can). However, where the locking pin sits on the piece, it can lie well and be balanced without leaning forward due to weight.
