GREAT PRICE BUDGET LED INTERVIEW LIGHT

The GVM-S300S is a very powerful video light capable of illuminating interviews and subjects throughout the day using softboxes and other diffusers. Ballast. The ballast is attached to the underside of the lantern in the yoke. There is no other power supply. The light comes with a 20ft power cord, making it very organized and tidy on set. I'm attaching a video interview to show an example of the light and some shots of the light. In the interview video I use a 42" softbox with 2 diffused layers to create a very soft and comfortable light. The light output is 100%, so I can use the base ISO on the Sony A7SIII with S-Log3. PACKAGING: The light comes with a padded case large enough to hold the light (including attached ballast and bracket), power cord and reflector. The outside is waterproof nylon and the inside is felt. There are a few separators around it to keep organized. The bag feels big, short and too long, has enough room for other accessories but maybe not enough room for a lamp with attached yoke and ballast; it's tight compression. WHITE BALANCE: This is a balanced "daylight "-LED. Marketing says it's 5600 but I had to set my own white balance to 5100K. Colors look great though. White balance was right at all brightness levels t levels at around 5100K. Tested with Sony A7SIII, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and ColorChecker Passport. Slight deviations are observed when changing the brightness. The green/magenta hue changes slightly depending on the brightness level, see test data below. As with all LED bulbs, the green/magenta should even out after more light use White Balance Level: Kelvin Temperature: Green/Magenta (G/M)10%: 5100K M225%: 5100K M250%: 5100K M175 %: 5100K M1100%: 5100 M1 FAN NOISE: The fan turns on and stays on for the duration of use, but is very quiet. It is quieter than 90mm "low noise" computer fan. This is imperceptible unless you are listening from less than 3 feet away. INSTALLATION: The clamp has 3 identical handles for tightening the clamp in a light angle and on a tripod. All 3 are plastic. It would be nice if they were metal, but the plastic seems pretty tough. Plug and clamp are made of metal. The Bowens S mount works without much fuss. I was able to put on and take off the reflector easily. REMOTE CONTROL: The remote control works with the light in SLAVE mode. The remote control can turn the light on and off (although the ballast must be on). The minimum brightness when using the remote control is 10% Keypad for channel setting; intensity for brightness; CCT does nothing (but should if GVM releases a two-tone version) The remote runs on 2 AA batteries. REVIEW: At $500 or less (at the time of this review), this 300W daylight LED pays for itself quickly. This is a necessary part of the interview kit. For those looking for a budget flashlight for the long haul, this is a great flashlight to get the job done.
