The shorts have extra soft padding. In contrast to some other brands, the thick padding goes far ahead and makes the ride much more comfortable. To be honest I was afraid they would curl up because they are so short. They are, but very, very light, almost imperceptible and do not cause discomfort. I really hope this will help cover up tan lines :) For size reference - I'm 5ft 11in, 140lbs, size medium and it fits perfectly. These are my new favorite shorts at the moment :)
