I'm only reporting for others like me. I love these connectors. I don't know what happened, but it was an outlet connected to a hotline. It was hooked up to a microwave and I'm not sure if that was the reason or not. It is possible that the plug has failed due to the power consumption of the microwave. The microwave had reset symptoms like the amp it was pulling was pacing but the microwave was still doing its job so I just assumed it was the microwave. I've been working a bit on changing one of gcfi's sockets to normal because it would drop out from time to time. I didn't touch the connectors except to move the wires around the box. I thought it was ok but I just tried the microwave and the plug on the hot one failed. It seems to have failed in a safe way. The metal was charred and the plastic melted a bit, but the wire was secure and not touching anything else. This answered my suspicion that they might fail. Got a proper ground, but I now have more confidence in them for safety over wire nuts. Now I know that if something goes wrong, the metal in the plug will melt or char. do not reuse plugs; throw them out.
