After five weeks of use I'm glad I bought it. I've used cheaper ($30-$50) electric shavers in the past and they get the job done but don't shave as closely as I'd like. This is the first Braun product I have ever used. I've used a manual safety razor for the past 15 years primarily because I wanted a closer shave, but I was disappointed with how long it lasted. It doesn't shave as closely as a real razor but is comparable and much better than the cheaper razors I've used. With this I can shave my face in about three minutes and get a pretty close shave. There are a few things I don't like. There are two areas of my face that this thing has a hard time touching, and it's very random. I have an area under my jaw about the size of an eraser where I have to work really hard to shave my hair off and I don't know why. I first noticed this when I found a random clump of 1/4 inch hair. It takes a conscious effort to get into this realm. The other is a strip 1/16" wide and 2" long on my right sideburn. I'm not sure exactly why those two areas are giving her trouble, but no matter what angle I stick it in or what orientation I hold the razor in, those two spots are a bit of a problem. my upper lip, but once I figured it out, it wasn't a problem. Another thing I didn't like so far is the clean and refresh feature. I shave every day so I use it every day now. I've read that some people get a month's worth of cartridges, but my record right now is 21 days. Although the cartridges are expensive, it's a bit faster than I want to use them. I'm still experimenting to see what works best and have tried various things including tapping the bristles out of the shaving head after each use which has added four days to it for me. Elf is really good. No irritation or anything like that and like I said it shaves better than others I've used. I also save about seven minutes every morning. Not being a morning person, every minute counts, so that's a big plus. All in all it was a good buy.
