Review on ๐Ÿš— Gray Shift Knob: Enhance Your Driving Experience with this 5 Speed Shifter Knob for Focus Mondeo MK3 Mustang S-MAX Galaxy by John Hall

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It does the job, looks good, minor installation issues (maybe it was me), 4 stars.

The leather parts of the Original Equipment shift knob began to fray and loosen at the stitching on our 2006 Mustang after 12 years of faithful service. I searched the internet and found this replacement grip at a much lower price than the original part. It's cheap enough that I didn't hesitate to try it - I could always opt for an OEM pen if that didn't prove acceptable. Well, this knob is easy to install and has a small bar at the bottom for a leather shift boot to snap onto. It looks just like the original, although I can tell that the black bits on the sides are plastic instead of leather like the original (and there will be a more expensive OEM replacement). It feels good so I have no real issues with this part. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that so far it's had a bit of an issue when I turn it on. to align it properly and hold it tight enough not to move at all. I had to rotate it 360 degrees a few times after installing it. I thought it was tight, but after a few weeks of riding it became loose enough to twist when shifting, so I rode it again, at this point it seemed tight and in the correct H alignment just to get around finding that as the week progressed he again started spinning under my hand. So I ran it again and believe me it's tight. This time it took me two hands to turn it all the way so the H pattern was facing forward. If it comes loose again I'll probably have to remove it and screw the locknut onto the threads before reinstalling it so I can get a wrench and tighten the locknut until the new shift knob is in the correct position. But if you've done this before, you'll understand that this is a fairly non-trivial operation, since the leather gear knob always tries to completely hide the gear change. But I assume that with enough "persuasion" I can make anything work. I hope I don't have to do this as the original didn't have a 'lock nut' and has been fine for years, no twisting or untwisting. It does the job, looks good, slight installation issues (maybe me), 4 stars.
