Review on πŸ“Έ Ikelite 6116.11 Underwater Housing: The Perfect Fit for Sony Cybershot RX100 II (DSC-RX100M2/B) by Will Schimmel

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Now I understand why everyone tried to talk me out of buying Ikelite

I am an underwater photographer, I dive almost every day, I have used cameras and boxes from different brands and I can say that I am as happy with the RX100 II as I am about its Ikelite housing am so disappointed. BUTTONS STAP: I work very carefully (I've never flooded the case for example) and tend my gear with vinegar and fresh water after every dive, but 50% of the time Ikelite buttons get stuck underwater and without pliers to unlock them, even if they're small ones have fingers. I've been using this case for over 3 months now and every time I need to change some settings I think twice because the chances of the buttons getting stuck are very high and when that happens there's nothing you can do except open the camera will change settings by itself and become inoperable. I'm trying to solve the problem by applying silicone to the button stem, but that doesn't solve the problem for long. I have used a cheaper housing with other cameras that has had little maintenance and have never had this problem (same water, same conditions). A WHEEL IS SO POORLY DESIGNED IT'S ALMOST USELESS: The wheel that rotates the front ring of the camera creates no friction and is useless. In fact, if you compare this case with other brands, Ikelite is the only one where the wheel axis is perpendicular to the axis of the chamber ring, and other brands have two parallel axes. or oblique. The only way I got it to work was if I modified the housing myself, but even that doesn't guarantee that the camera will work once installed. Most of the time it works out of the water but not underwater! can hurt you. I've pricked my index finger several times, and once it went right under the nail. so painful! VERY POOR DESIGN: I've compared this case to cheaper brands and feel a lot of improvements could be made. For example, the zoom wheel does not return to its original position when released. So if you didn't notice it spinning before you put the camera in, it's not grabbing the lever and you'll have to open the case again to fix it. Given its size and price (and the price of the camera) I'm pretty sure the double o-ring could have made it more reliable and the user more relaxed while diving. GOOD THINGS? The only two good things I've found are a long shutter lever that makes you very precise when focusing and a 67mm threaded port for attaching external lenses, but those two things don't justify buying this item. by c***. I think the unbranded case for this camera works better than Ikelite. At the end of this review I will say that if I could go back in time I would definitely buy another brand.
