Review on πŸ”Œ Logitech F710 Wireless Gamepad - 2.4 GHz with USB Nano-Receiver, Dual Vibration Feedback, D-Pad Switches, Compatible with PC - Grey/Black by Jacob Richardson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great gamepad for games old and new (compared to F310)

Pretty solid gamepad with a nice old-school DualShock design. The key thing about the F710 that puts it over the Xbox pads is a switch that lets you toggle between DirectInput (for older games) and XInput (for most modern games that support Xbox controllers). This makes it great for almost anything that has controller support, and you don't have to worry about messing around with XInput Plus or other software to get Xbox controls for older PC games. Wireless signal quality is pretty good and I rarely had any latency issues. It was delayed once or twice, but it didn't last more than a few seconds, and that happens extremely rarely. I'm fairly close to my receiver and computer, but it seems to work fine up to 10 feet. For reference, the receiver is plugged into a USB port on my keyboard, which is on the floor a few feet above my Wi-Fi computer. I've heard that latency can be more common when there's a lot of WiFi near the receiver, but like I said, that was rare for me. Just like the wired F310 counterpart, the joysticks are responsive and smooth. I was able to perform kicks and jumps fairly consistently in Dark Souls with no issues (this was a problem on the F310 due to the sticks' increased dead zones). The buttons have a nice feel and the floating d-pad has a small central hinge that, unlike the F310, makes it impossible to press all the switches at once. These triggers are still pretty tight, but not useless or uncomfortable. In general, the gamepad itself is heavy and lies securely in the hand with the batteries inserted. Yes it uses AA and some people think it's old hat but that's a moot point for me as I use rechargeable AAs. This controller predates the DualShock 4 by a few years and still has better battery life than Sony's excellent PS4 tablet. It's a bit cheaper than a standard Xbox controller (even cheaper if you're on sale like me), but the added functionality with the DX switch makes it the perfect controller for my PC gaming.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • No insurance
