Review on Efficiently Connect and Type with the Microsoft Bluetooth Keyboard Black by Brian Stepp

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Slow performance and other issues

I bought this Microsoft keyboard to use on a Windows 10 computer, so I had every reason to expect the experience to be smooth , but the keyboard did not live up to expectations. The Bluetooth connection is slow and intermittent even when the keyboard is close to the computer. So if you wait a few seconds between taps, the connection will appear to drop, and then the buttons will take a few seconds to press. to reply as it seems to be reconnecting. If you use your computer intensively, for example for programming, this is more than just a minor annoyance. I can't tell if this is an issue with the keyboard itself or with Windows Bluetooth in general as I haven't tried other keyboards to determine if it's just this device or a more general issue, but it's not the only serious one Problem. The Ctrl, Shift, and Alt keys also don't work with function keys. For example, while F1 works (pressing the Fn-F1 keys), Ctrl-F1 doesn't work (pressing Ctrl-Fn-F1 has no effect), so there's no way to use the function keys in combination with Ctrl, Shift, and Alt. . I've been trying to see if there are any configuration options or similar that might fix this issue as it appears to be a major feature issue that to my surprise has morphed into a Microsoft branded product to no avail. If you use your computer intensively, for example for programming, this is a serious problem. Because of these (non-trivial) issues, I can only give the keyboard a maximum of 2 stars and do not recommend it.
